Corda Credit Union Donates $10,000 to Renovate Kitchen for Foster Youth
The renovated space will give foster youth and volunteers a welcoming place to cook, gather, and build meaningful connections.
Corda’s donation moves the renovation of the shared kitchen forward
Corda Credit Union has donated $10,000 to help renovate the shared kitchen used by the Junior League of Cedar Rapids and Foundation 2 at 305 2nd Ave SE in downtown Cedar Rapids. The upgraded space will support bi-monthly meals and life-skills activities for foster youth in the Achieving Maximum Potential (AMP) program.
The current kitchen is outdated, with aging equipment and limited supplies, making it difficult for volunteers to prepare meals. The renovation includes an estimated $15,000 in new equipment and $19,000 in construction costs. A grant has already covered the equipment, and Corda’s contribution moves the project closer to completion.
“Building stronger communities is at the heart of what we do at Corda, one meaningful partnership at a time,” said Paula O’Rourke, President/CEO of Corda Credit Union. “This kitchen renovation will give foster youth a space to gather, learn, and know they are valued and supported by the people around them. We’re proud to partner with the Junior League on a project that strengthens connection and opportunity right here in our community.”
“We are incredibly grateful to Corda Credit Union for their generous support,” said Jaime Mead, President of Junior League of Cedar Rapids. “This gift helps us create a space where we can continue to serve and share meals with foster youth. It’s more than just a kitchen—it’s a place where care and connection come together.”
Since 2011, the Junior League’s Bridging the G.A.P. program has supported teens aging out of foster care through shared meals, life-skills education, advocacy training, and housing support. The renovated kitchen will provide a welcoming space for volunteers and youth to cook, gather, and build meaningful relationships.
