Six Months of Magic at the Market

Cedar Witch Goods is a charming and whimsical shop in NewBo City Market that offers artisanal treasures and signature skincare creations.

A dream come true

Katie Adams, owner of Cedar Witch Goods, is celebrating a magical milestone — six months of bringing her “hippie witch-vibed” bath and body creations to life at NewBo City Market. This journey began with Katie’s win in the 2024 Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year competition held in March, which awarded her a rent-free storefront courtesy of Corda Credit Union, as well as business mentoring from NewBo City Market. Now, her store is thriving, and her story continues to inspire.

“I’m incredibly grateful for Corda Credit Union,” Katie shared at her store’s opening in June. “Having a storefront is a dream come true.”

That dream has been further enriched by the support of the NewBo community and the countless customers who adore her products.

“It’s really rewarding when first-time visitors tell me, ‘You have such cute stuff!’” Katie said. “Reconnecting with people from different stages of my life has been an unexpected joy.”

Running a physical store has been an eye-opening experience for Katie, who previously balanced wholesale and online sales under the Thumbprint Soap brand.

“Owning a storefront means you have to work very hard at maintaining a work/life balance,” she admitted. “You spend so much of your time in that space during the free hours of everyone you want to spend time with.”

Despite these challenges, Cedar Witch Goods continues to enchant customers with its unique aesthetic and high-quality offerings. From signature soaps like Hippie Witch and Black Magic to roll-on perfumes and sugar scrubs, Katie’s creations blend modern skincare with whimsical charm.

Katie has also begun introducing new products, such as plant propagations, which reflect her love for nature.

“I enjoy giving plant tips to the people who adopt them,” she explained.

Looking ahead, she hopes to explore advertising to boost her online presence and dreams of launching a mobile gift shop to bring Cedar Witch Goods to markets and events.

This holiday season, Cedar Witch Goods is a must-visit destination at NewBo City Market. Whether you’re shopping for artisanal treasures or a unique stocking stuffer, Katie’s store promises a one-of-a-kind experience. And she’s not the only entrepreneur making waves. The Market is also home to 2023 Corda Credit Union Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year, Kwai Butler of Oja, who continues to delight customers with her Korean-inspired culinary creations.

By choosing to shop small, you’re not just buying gifts — you’re investing in passionate creators like Katie and Kwai who enrich our communities.

“There are so many unknowns going on in the world right now,” Katie said, reflecting on the challenges small businesses face. “The support I’ve received has made all the difference.”

So, this holiday season, cast a spell of support for local businesses. Stop by NewBo City Market, meet the inspiring vendors, and experience the magic for yourself.
